DREAM BIG

There once was a kid, a kid who had a dream. She was loved and cherished by her Father, but the jealousy and unbelief of the enemy, made her hide in a shell and doubt what her Father said to her. Like Eve, the voices ‘Did He really say that?’ made her wonder if that was indeed what He had said. Is this you?

Sharing your dreams with others may be met by words of sarcasm. The voices may sound like:

  • You are too young,

  • You are too poor,

  • You are not qualified,

  • You are not realistic,

  • It is impossible.

But with God, NOTHING is impossible. “For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37).

God qualifies the called. He called you for a specific reason and season. He is Your Provider and He holds the whole world and all the resources in His hand. THIS is your REALITY.

Opinions expressed by others do not count… only the Word of God. Do not listen to the nay-sayers, listen to the One who gave you a YES even before you were born. God speaks in a different tone of voice. Psalm 139:13-16:

“For You created my inmost being, You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful; I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”

That voice may also sound like this: Why me? Child of God, Why NOT you? George Bernard Shaw said: “There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”

Your dreams and passions are closely linked to your calling. Desires, gifts, and dreams are placed in your heart to fulfil your calling and to bring honor and glory to God. Because you are a child of God, with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can think and dream like God. While you wait for the dream to come into existence, your endurance is built, your character shaped, and your faith defined.

A pregnant woman does not see her baby immediately. It is a 9-month process. Impatience won’t bring the baby out. But there is also a sacrifice or two. A special diet needs to be followed to bring a healthy baby into this world and keep the mother in top-notch condition.

Big dreams may sound ridiculous and farfetched – not only to the dreamer, but also to others listening to the dreamer. No one else needs to believe in your dream, but YOU need to believe in your dream. If you know that you know that you know that this dream is given to you by God, it is all that matters.

Joseph, also known as the dreamer, went from the prison to the palace. Joseph waited for 13 years (Genesis 37). So can you! How?

Joseph had five qualities that stood out:

  1. Values and beliefs that affected his positive behavior

  2. Self-discipline, patience, and consistency

  3. Relationships through connectedness

  4. A Heart of compassion

  5. Passionate purpose

Joseph’s dreams first got him into trouble, but his ability to understand them leads him to be chosen by Pharaoh and to save the world. The story of Joseph, the son of Jacob who was called Israel, is a vivid representation of the great truth that ‘all things work together for good to those who loved God (Rom 8:28).

David, on his turn, waited for 15 years (1 Sam 16:7) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Another example is Abraham and Sarah who waited for 25 years. God gave them a promise in Genesis 18:10. This promise was fulfilled, “I have made you the father of many nations—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. Abraham focused on God’s promises and His faithfulness to keep them.” (Romans 4:17)

Do not let time, the environment, or the resources limit your dream. Do not let doubt interfere. Doubt is the biggest killer of dreams. Speak the Word of God and speak His dream into existence. Trust God who created this dream. Focus on Him and He will guide and lead you step by step. You are on training ground. With every step, you are gaining territory.

Love Him and honor Him and in due time He will make it happen. It will happen when YOU are ready. Give this dream back to Him to deal with it, so that you won’t lose focus of the Dreamgiver.

Dearest friend, if God has given you a clear vision and dream, do not give up on it. Don’t give up on God. He will make it happen, for His glory – a display of His splendor. It is okay if everyone else says ‘Here comes the dreamer.’ Dream on.

Have you deserted a dream? May the Father awaken His dream again in you today. I pray over you Deuteronomy 32:10 "Father, You found your child in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; please encircle your child, care for your child, and keep this kid of Yours as the apple of Your eye. In Jesus Name. AMEN (so be it).”

May all say: Here comes the dreamer.

May God say: Here comes MY DREAM!
